National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day 2019 Events Round Up #4

Thank you to all of you who have got in touch with us to let us know what you have planned.
This is our fourth installment of what events are planned around the UK! This one’s a big one!

*Leicestershire Police and Northamptonshire Police
Will be coordinating awareness day activity in both forces through their shared CSE Officer. This includes the circulation of bespoke materials and key messages, encouraging partners to wear red day for the day and taking part in #HelpingHands.

Both forces will run digital media campaigns on all their social media channels to raise awareness of child exploitation in all its guises including sexual and criminal exploitation and county lines, encouraging people to be aware of the signs to look out for and signposting them to help and support.

They will also use the day to highlight our current campaign which is focussed on raising awareness of CSE and CCE for teenage boys and in particular the potential hazards of online gaming.

*The East Riding Children Safeguarding Partnership
Their local radio station Viking FM will be rolling out adverts in relation to CSE awareness and via their news desk throughout the day.

Youth and family support and the local authority will be raising the profile of CSE awareness day though social media and application “Thirteen” for children, families and the wider community. Not in our Communities Campaign (Exploitation) will be holding their Youth Summit to secondary schools in the East Riding and raising the profile of their Young Peoples Ambassadors Programme.

Helping hands will be attending most professionals meetings to ensure those most important selfies are evidenced, with some important messages to be deliver and shared. Maria Cassidy , NWG will be delivering a workshop to practitioners in the East Riding as part of the Parents Benchmarking Tool.

*Loudmouth Education and Training Through Theatre
Loudmouth are delivering sessions of their child exploitation programmes and training for many primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, conferences NHS staff to support National CSE Awareness Day. These include:
13th March – Presenting our Child Exploitation work including county lines at the Avon and Somerset Police Child Sexual and Criminal Exploitation Conference.
14th March – Delivering CSE Awareness training for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Helping Hands our primary Child Exploitation and abuse programme at Foxyards Primary School in Dudley part funded by Dudley MBC.
15th March – Working For Marcus our secondary Child Exploitation programme at Ark Kings Academy and St Edmund Campion School in Birmingham.
18th March – Working For Marcus our secondary Child Exploitation programme at Telford College and Four Dwellings School in Birmingham.
19th March – Helping Hands our primary Child Exploitation and abuse programme at St Chads Primary and Rufford Primary in Dudley part funded by Dudley MBC.
20th March – Working For Marcus our secondary Child Exploitation programme at Meadowcroft School in Wakefield.
Delivering CSE Awareness training for University Hospitals Birmingham funded by Umbrella Sexual Health Service.
21st March – Working For Marcus our secondary Child Exploitation programme at Holte School in Birmingham.
Helping Hands our primary Child Exploitation and abuse programme at Braidwood School in Birmingham.
22nd March – Helping Hands our primary Child Exploitation and abuse programme at St Peter’s Primary Academy in Stoke.

*Isle of Anglesey County Council
Isle of Anglesey CC will be doing an awareness session at a Local Youth Club on the 11th and also for whole of year 9 at a local secondary school on the 15th. They will also be introducing the contextual safeguarding model to staff within the local authority.

*Jersey Youth Service and States of Jersey Police
On 18th March Jersey youth workers and police officers will be at a stall in St Helier, raising awareness of CSE and answering the public’s questions. During the week of the 18th March they will be delivering Assembly sessions to all Year 9 students and a lunchtime interactive information stall for all students in all of the secondary schools & colleges across the island. Jersey General Hospital to provide displays & information for the public.

Between the 15th & 18th March CSE adverts will be aired on Channel TV during peak times & the Youth Projects across the island will be providing fun interactive workshops around the topic of CSE and airing the local CSE videos for young people that access our youth projects.

On 20th March Safeguarding Partnership Board alongside partner agencies will be delivering a Level 3 CSE training day for professionals.

*Dumfries and Galloway
Dumfries and Galloway Community Justice and Violence Against Women and Girls are holding a joint conference ‘From Hurt to Hope: Moving from blame and shame to understanding’ on 13th March at Dumfries Baptist Church Centre.

*Nottinghamshire County Council
Nottinghamshire County Council’s Tackling Emerging Threats to Children Team (TETC) continue to raise awareness of CSE, County Lines, Youth Violence, Mental Health, Anti bullying and Staying Safe Online with children, young people, parents and professionals. A range of events are being held to raise awareness including;
• Total Insight (TiE) will be delivering performances to Y9 students across Nottinghamshire Secondary schools. ‘When I was 14’ performs verbatim interviews on the impact of Youth Violence and Mental Health
• Schools and professionals encouraged to get involved with the hand pledges
• NSCP – Training for professionals; Safeguarding children and Young People from Child Sexual Exploitation
• ‘It’s Everybody’s Business’ – talk to Pilsley Women’s Institute about CSE and the importance of talking with children and young people – Hand Pledges completed by members
• Raising awareness with parents and carers through support sessions

*PACE
Pace will be publishing a publication devised by parents affected by CSE, written in their own words and based on their lived experience. They will also be sharing some of the awareness raising work being done by their teams in their communities, and highlighting some of our latest training news.

North Yorkshire Safeguarding Board
North Yorkshire Safeguarding Board have put together a series of four picture postcards that feature some clear messages to children and young people. These four key postcard messages will be shared across all our partnerships on CSE Awareness Day and through all our and a our partners’ social media channels.

*Surrey Police – Surrey Police are launching the Operation Sportsafe Awareness Campaign. “Local sports and activity clubs for children have a vital role in identifying and protecting children that could be at risk of exploitation and we need your help to work with us and stop this abuse. *Crimestoppers Scotland – Crimestoppers Scotland will be running a campaign across Scotland on CSE Awareness Day (and throughout the week) encouraging young people to look out for their friends and spot the signs of CSE, extending this to county lines, consent etc over the course of the week.

*Basis Young People and Basis Boys – on 18th March, Basis will be holding their ‘Campaign to End Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) 2019’ – now in its 3rd Year! The event will largely consist of a number of interactive workshops designed and facilitated by young people we have been supporting as well as other input presented in the form of art or spoken word. The event is aimed at practitioners as well as anyone else that is committed to ending child sexual exploitation. The Basis Team as we will also raising funds and awareness at Leeds Station (14th March) and City Centre (16th March).

*Avon and Somerset Police – Child Sexual and Criminal Exploitation Conference on 13th March at Avon and Somerset Police HQ in Portishead, Bristol. This event is unfortunately now full.
Throughout March they will be raising the awareness of CSE by going into secondary schools, attending school assemblies, parents evenings and carrying out staff awareness events. As well as meeting with members of the public in local shopping centres and on high streets across their force area.

*Bright Futures – Have a range of projects with different groups in the lead up to National CSE Awareness Day:
– Young Mums Groups are completing education work around CSE and creating embroidered cross stitch hearts.
– Community and Mini Ambassadors Groups – creating mosaic boards raising awareness of CSE which will be displayed at two of Bright Futures Community Hubs.
– Education work and school assemblies.

*West Yorkshire Police – A conference on 18th March will provide a one stop learning experience that will increase the communities ability to spot the signs of CSE, protect vulnerable children and report concerns formally to enable agencies to target specific risks quickly and effectively. *Virgincare Essex – on 18th March Virgincare will be holding an awareness event for frontline staff in each of the four quadrants, this will consist of maned stands containing leaflets, posters, video clips and other resources in order to raise awareness.

*Canterbury Community Safety Partnership (CSP), Canterbury Local Children’s Partnership Group (LCPG) and Canterbury Early Help and Preventative Services (EHPS) in partnership – Are holding a free awareness raising event on 14th March. Aimed at all those in the Canterbury District who work with and support vulnerable children and young people, from across education, policing, prevention, social care and the Community and Voluntary Sector (CVS). *Yeovil Hospital – Yeovil Hospital will have a CSE stand on 18th March

*Family Support – Family Support (Flintshire Social Services) are holding a CSE Awareness event which will include a variety of agency stalls with information regarding services and advice. Informative drop-in sessions available to everyone. This event is open to the whole community and is running from 10am-2pm.

*South Tyneside – Newly designed posters and Burgundy Ribbons (made by young people) will be available to circulate and wear, they will have local press coverage, lighting up of the town hall (with the possibility of flying a burgundy flag) and they are also planning a special CSE picture using a drone! All of the events and actions will be seen on social media!

*Buckinghamshire and Thames Valley Police – will be actively promoting Stop CSE Awareness Day on their social media channels (@RUWiseBucks and the Buckinghamshire County Council channels).

* The National Fostering Agency – The NFA are holding a ‘Spot and Stop Exploitation’ week in Bolton starting 18th March.

* AlterEgo – on 18th March raising awareness through ‘Chelsea’s Story’ around Child Sexual Exploitation in Cumbria, Dorset and Cambridge. Raising awareness of ‘CountyLines’ around Child Criminal Exploitation (and it’s crossover with CSE) in Bedfordshire, Gloucestershire, Plymouth and for the MET Police in London and raising awareness of ‘Click’ around eSafety and online grooming in East Sussex.

* Operation Sport Safe Event – On 18th March NWGs Kev will be delivering a presentation on abuse in Sport to clubs and governing bodies in Surrey. Launching on National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Day, local sports and activity clubs for children have a vital role in identifying and protecting children that could be at risk of exploitation and we need your help to work with us and stop this abuse.

* West Yorkshire Police – 18th March – West Yorkshire Police will be holding a Disruption Event in Bradford where NWGs Steve will be delivering a presentation on consent, other presentations on the day will look at how to develop and improve community awareness of CSE. The event is by invite and is aimed at a strategic audience.

* CSE Conference at Sheffield Uni – 21st March – NWGs Phil will be chairing the event for criminology students at the University which will include input from Sarah Champion MP, Jayne Senior and a survivor from Rotherham.

*Metropolitan Police CSE conference – 18th March – NWGs Kay will be attending on behalf of the NWG and will be delivering an input on disruption and exploitation. The conference is focusing on CSE and CCE, including county lines.

*NSPCC – 19th March – NWGs Phil Ashford will be attending the NSPCC’s launch event for the programme evaluation of their Protect & Respect project. The event is an opportunity for attendees (invite only) to hear the key learning from the evaluation and how these are affecting further development of CSE work.

*The Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney – throughout the week of the 18th March; they’ll be delivering workshops in Guernsey and Alderney schools to raise awareness with students, as well as with school staff, encouraging them to join the #HelpingHands Campaign!
